John Gormley

John Gormley studied at the University of Glasgow gaining an MA in Music. After graduating in 1995, he continued his studies at postgraduate level, gaining an MMus in composition and an MSc in Information Technology in 1997. During his time at Glasgow University, John was both Organ Student (1993-1995) and Organ Scholar (1995-1997).

As a composer, John has had works performed by several groups, including Cappella Nova, Scottish Voices, Glasgow University Chapel Choir, Dunedin Consort, Psappha, The New Music Players, St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral (Glasgow), Symposia, Alba String Quartet, Thistle Brass, Ensemble Thing. He is currently completing a PhD in composition at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

He has been organist and choirmaster at Sherbrooke-St. Gilbert's Parish Church since June 1998 and from 2000-2003 was also assistant organist at St. Mary's Cathedral (Glasgow).

John has directed the Glasgow University Chamber Singers (1995-1997); the vocal-octet Song-Circle (1995-1997); Eastwood Choral Society (1999-2009); Cathures (formerly the Glasgow Renaissance Singers) (2003-2005). He has been on the faculty of the School of Music at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama since 2005.
